If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that my behavior was... different for the last 24 hours. I got hacked. I didn't have two-factor authentication on and ended up losing control of my account.
For those 24 hours, the hacker posted bitcoin spam and tried to do the same hack they did to me on some of my mutuals. Best I can tell, it doesn't look like they were successful, and many people realized it wasn't me right away, as I'm vocally anti-crypto (at least as it exists now).
Anyway, I am back in control of my account. Instagram makes it super hard to get support, but I was lucky to have a friend that works at Meta who was able to put in an incident ticket for me. Most people don't have that connection, so it's unfortunate that stuff like this happens.
If you were contacted by "me" in the last day on Instagram, please accept my profound and sincere apologies.
If you don't have 2FA turned on for your Instagram account, DO IT NOW. Don't wait. It will prevent most, if not all, hack attempts from succeeding.
